Nowosielce The Maria Magdalena Church

The church in Nowosielce, a pearl of the wooden architecture, served also as a stronghold, sheltering local inhabitants in the time of frequent invasions. The sanctuary was erected in 1595 and situated on the hill that dominates the neighborhood up to this day. In the interior of the church remained two Gothic guilds’ chests, Renaissance stalls, ambo and a stone font. In 1624, during the Tatar invasion that plundered wide stretch of land, the folk of the small village nearby Przeworsk resisted the invader taking shelter in the church and defending it, led by a vogt Michał Pyrz. The victory of the Nowosielce folk was shrouded in legend. In 1936, to commemorate Michał Pyrz, an earth mound was accomplished nearby the church. In the neighborhood of the church there is a Jan Nepomucen shrine from the 18th century. On of “The Route of Wooden Architecture” leads us to Nowosielce.
